On offer are an interesting pair [2] of manuscript books filled with lecture notes for classes at the University of Maryland Medical School in obstetrics under George Warner Miltenberger (1819-1905); surgery under Louis McLane Tiffany (1844-1916); physiology under Frances Turquand Miles; and anatomy under Jacob Edwin Michael handwritten by an unidentified student. Lecture notes for some of the University's most esteemed professors, several of whom were consulting physicians at Johns Hopkins: Cordell, Eugene Fauntleroy as noted in The Medical Annals of Maryland, 1799-1899; (Baltimore: 1903) pp., 502; 503; 505-06; 596; Dictionary of American Biography, vol. 9, section 2, page 535). The two volumes, octavo, 168 and 142 pages, plus blanks, bound in original marbled board and ¼ cloth blank books, volumes worn and shaken, boards rubbed, text inscribed in pencil, occasional sketches and drawings, some smudging but quite readable.
